Test-Center for GreenAI

Green, measurable and certifiable Green AI infrastructures for business, administration and society.

The Test-Center for GreenAI is a research-driven institution dedicated to the evaluation, optimization and certification of GreenAI-based application systems.

We support companies, public administrations, researchers and students in designing, testing and operating AI use cases in a way that is energy-efficient, cost-effective, CO₂e-aware and technically reliable.

Our infrastructure combines 48 state-of-the-art AI computers, heterogeneous hardware architectures, SME-typical systems and four alternative, simultaneously operable electricity and CO₂ measurement technologies, including a full toolstack for benchmarking and analysis.

Why GreenAI Matters

Artificial intelligence is becoming a core technology across industries and society. However, every AI application consumes energy, infrastructure resources and computational capacity.

The key question is not only: Can AI solve the task?
But also: How can it be executed most sustainably?
Under what conditions can an AI be characterized as GreenAI?

The Test-Center for GreenAI provides the infrastructure and methodology to answer this question in a measurable and practical way.

What We Enable

1. Finding the Right Hardware for AI Applications

We determine the optimal hardware configuration for AI applications based on constraints such as response time, energy consumption, CO₂e footprint and cost.

  • Performance vs. energy optimization
  • Cost-efficient execution
  • Infrastructure compatibility
  • Scalability and availability

2. GreenAI Certification

AI use cases, models and tasks can be systematically evaluated and prepared for GreenAI certification based on measurable criteria.

  • Energy consumption
  • CO₂e emissions
  • Execution time
  • AI quality
  • Resource utilization

3. Intelligent AI Task Distribution

AI tasks are dynamically allocated across heterogeneous infrastructures to achieve optimal sustainability.

  • Up to 46% reduction in energy consumption
  • With only ~1 second additional runtime

4. Platform for Evaluating AI Requests

Incoming AI tasks can be assessed and matched to sustainable execution strategies.

  • Model selection
  • Hardware selection
  • Data efficiency
  • Execution strategy
  • CO₂e impact assessment

Then, AI tasks are transformed to be green and re-routed for AI task realization.

Our Infrastructure

  • 48 state-of-the-art AI computers
  • Heterogeneous hardware architectures
  • SME-typical computing environments
  • Dedicated AI hardware and cloud scenarios
  • Four parallel electricity and CO₂ measurement systems
  • Integrated benchmarking and evaluation toolstack

This setup enables realistic comparisons across different infrastructures — from SME environments to advanced AI systems.
